Bangalore-Munnar Trip

10/06/2010 - 12/06/2010
30/06/2010
We a group of 4 engineering students traveled by car from Bangalore to the beautiful hill station of Munnar. My friends were from Delhi and none of us had visited Munnar. We took details of the route from our Keralite friends. We started off after the classes on Thursday afternoon as the next day was a holiday followed by the weekend. We took the route via Coimbatore and halted at Coimbatore for the night and resumed our journey early morning. From Coimbatore, we reached Pollachi and then Udumalpet and from there onto Marayoor. We stopped awhile in Marayoor to see the ancient dolmens. The drive to Munnar was indeed splendid. After checking in our hotel and refreshing we strolled about the town in the evening. Next day morning we went to visit the Eravikulam national park. The park is situated around 8KMs from the town. We parked our car at the base of the park and we boarded the park bus to reach the hill top to the entrance of the national park. Entry tickets have to be bought and there is fee for carrying cameras into park. Next leg of the trip was the trek into the wildlife park to catch a glimpse of the beautiful tea plantations and ofcourse the endangered Nilgiri Tahr this park strives to protect. All 4 of us enjoyed the trek and the view from the top was beautiful. We could see the valley below with tea plantations. After spending about 3 hours there, we started back and drove to Mattuppetty. The boating in the lake is the main attraction. We ventured for the speed boat ride and were thrilled. The week end was coming to an end and we had to pack and return. Due to lack of time, we had missed many attractions in Munnar and we hope to be back for a longer trip next time.
