It is located between Kottayam and Thiruvalla townships-18 km from Kottayam town.Changanasserry became part of the Travancore when King Marthanda Varma had annexed it after the Changanasherry War in 1750. The market founded by Velu Thampy Dalava in Changanassery is still an important trading center. The NSS College, the St. Berchman’s College and the Assumption College are the major institutions of higher education in Changanssery.There are two famous mosques here, the Pazhaya-palli and the Puthurpalli. The Pazhayapalli is said to be more than 1000 years old and the Puthurpalli is about 400 years old. The followers of all religions celebrate the ‘Chandanakkudam’ festival of Puthurpalli. A Bhagavathi temple and Catholic church are situated in the vicinity of this mosque. The Subramaniam Temple at Perunna and the Trikkodithanam Vishnu Temple are important centers of worship for the Hindus. The Parel Church and the Metropolitan church are important centres of worship for the Christian community.
