Erattupetta is a famous trading centre in Kottayam District. It is the most populated panchayat in India. Earlier it was known as 'Erapoli' or 'Erapuzha'. Erattupetta lies in the foothills of the High Ranges and is often called as the ‘Gateway of Malanad’.It lies on the banks of the Meenachil river and is an area with meadows, tea gardens and rubber estates. Erattupetta is a famous trading center for spices, rubber, arecanut and other agricultural products. Aruvithura church and Erattupetta Mosque are the two popular pilgrimage spots of Erattupetta. The nearby tourist places are Wagamon, Kurisumala, Elaveezha Poonchira, Kolani Mudi, Kannadippara Waterfalls, Ayyampara, and Marmala Aruvi.
