About Ezhimala

Ezhimala is a hill station beside the sea. It lies at a height of 286m. Ezhimala lies between the Kavvayi backwaters and Arabian Sea. The beach is a major tourist attraction. The Mount Dilli LightHouse on the beach is now part of the naval base. Permission is required to viist the beach. Ezhimala also has historical evidences of a rich past. Carved stone pillars and an ancient burial chamber can be seen at the foot of the hills. The hills are noted for medicinal herbs. The Ezhimala Fort or Ettikkulam fort lies about 2km south of the lighthouse. The fort is near ruin. It was built by the Portuguese and subsequently held by the French and the English. It consists of three hexagonal prismatic structures, one of which has been completely damaged. Ezhimala is famous for the Naval Academy which is the largest of its kind in whole Asia.
