About Fort Kochi

Fort Cochin, 13 kms away from Ernakulam town, is a standing reminder of the colonial past. The architecture of the bungalows, churches and fort reminds us of the bygone era. This was an obscure fishing hamlet formed by a cataclysmic flood in AD 1341.The Arabs were the first traders who reached this shore for spice trading. Fort Cochin is one of the places in Kerala where the foreign dominion has left behind a great impact and has paved the way for tourism. The grids of old streets, ancient bungalows and the iconic Chinese fishing nets have been discernible in making Fort Cochin a ‘must see’ destination.

Fort Cochin is accessible by bus or ferry. Its an hour’s drive away from Ernakulam city which is 13 kms away. The ferry ride from the main boat jetty at Ernakulam takes about 20 minutes. The Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery is 34 kms away.The Ernakulam railway station is the hub of many trains from all parts of India.
