St Marys Church (popularly called 'Valiyapally') belonging to the Jacobite Syrian Church is believed to have been established during 4th century AD by a few Syrian families in the area. After India’s independence,it became a part of the Travancore-Cochin state and later, Kerala when the state was formed in 1957, Kothamangalam taluk was formed.
