About Kumbla

Kumbla is a small town in Kasargod formed as a lagoon on the mouth of Shiriya river. The town is seperated from the sea by a sand spit and connected to it by a narrow channel. This town got its name from the word Kanipura which is the land of Kanwa Maharshi. It is the most famous center for the traditional Yakshagaana. In fact it is the birth place of Parthi Subbha, father of Yakshagaana. Kumbla town is famous fro temples. Sri Gopalakrishna Temple Sri Durga Parameshwari Temple Sri Parthasarathi Temple, Arikkady Hanuman Mandiram and the Gadde Mutt are the well known temples here. The famous lake temple at Anathapura, is just 5 kms from Kumbla. This temple is believed to be the original abode of Anantapadmanabha, the deity of Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple at Trivandrum.
