Parassala is the southern end of Kerala, bordering Tamil Nadu. It is a busy town and people of all religions stay here.Being the border, people from both states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu work and stay here. Malayalam and Tamil language is spoken by the people. The town has numerous churches, temples, mosques, hospitals and educational institutions. Parassala Mahadev Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located here. It was built by Mallen Chembakaraman Delava of Venad royal family. Southern Kurisumala, a famous Christian pilgrim center is also another attraction here. There is a famous Christian church in Parassala -Abbs Memorial Church(it's nearly built in 1880's).It was one of the 4 mission stations of London Missionary Society in Travancore during that time. Prof. Parassala B. Ponnammal the First Lady Singer in the famous Navarathri Mandapam of Thiruvananthapuram hails from this town. ‘Karupatti’, obtained from palmyra nectar is solid sweet preparation is a known product of this town. Many of the local people are involved in the extraction and preparation of this sweetener, known for its medicinal properties.
