Wadakkancherry is a small town in Thrissur district. It’s a town rich in culture and temple festivities. Its an important town being the Head Quarters of Thalappilly Taluk. The Kerala Kalamandalam lies in close proximity. The town is bounded by the Machattu Mountains on the east, hillocks on the south, paddy fields on the west and rocky hills on the north. It’s a highly fertile area with ample vegetation. Wadakkanchery is very famous for temple poorams and fireworks. The "Pathinettara (eighteen and half) Kavu Vela" is famous which takes place on the first day of Kumbha masam at different temples in and around Wadakkanchery. Wadakkanchery also has gifted many eminent persons to Kerala like Kalamandalam Hyder Ali and film actor Oduvil Unnikrishnan. Vazhaani Dam, approximately 8km from here, made entirely of mud is the major tourist attraction near Wadakkanchery.It is also famous for the Sree Ruthira Mahakalikavu Temple dedicated to Goddess Kali (Durga).
